has been contracted by Trollhättan Energi to build the new Överby waterworks in Trollhättan, Västra Götaland County, Sweden, at a contract value of Skr580m ($52.52m).

The infrastructure project, marking a substantial investment in the local utility services, is aimed at securing the future supply of drinking water for the region’s inhabitants.

The new waterworks will be constructed adjacent to the existing facility, which has been serving more than 57,000 residents with potable water since 1962.

The scope of the project encompasses the creation of a new water treatment plant, complete with a process plant and staff facilities.

Peab’s engagement with the project began in 2018 under a first-phase agreement with Trollhättan Energi, focusing on the design and planning stages to ensure an optimised product that addressed quality and risks effectively.

Site preparation is set to start with the clearing of trees, rerouting an existing pedestrian and bicycle path, and establishing the construction area.

This development is part of the broader Water Package initiative by Trollhättan Energi, which is a strategic investment in four parts, aiming to safeguard the quality of drinking water for generations to come.

Trollhättan Energi Water unit manager Synnöve Holm said: “A new waterworks will meet today’s requirements for drinking water treatment. However, it is highly likely that the future will involve changed demands on drinking water production or changed conditions. The new waterworks is therefore prepared to grow.”

The project is now advancing into its second phase.

The collaborative turnkey contract stipulates an immediate start to construction, with an anticipated operational date for the facility set for 2030.

The project’s order registration is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.

Peab region manager Mattias Emanuelsson said: “At Peab we will use our combined expertise to deliver high-quality infrastructure that will serve the local community for many years to come. We look forward to working with Trollhättan Energi to carry out the project in an efficient, safe and sustainable manner.”

Earlier to this project, Peab secured a contract valued at Skr118m for the construction of LKAB’s demonstration plant for critical minerals in Luleå, Sweden.
