Construction company has signed a €105m ($110m) project management contract with to build a new production and technology centre in Mustasaari, Finland.
To be built in the Vikby industrial area, the new facility is expected to bolster Hitachi Energy’s transformer production capacity in response to the increasing demands of the global energy transition.
The project encompasses the construction of a transformer development, testing, and production centre, alongside modern product development, testing, and office facilities.
The total area of the construction will span approximately 44,000m², including ancillary buildings, earthworks, and building technology works.
Hitachi Energy Finland managing director Matti Vaattovaara said: “Our new Hitachi Energy Park production and technology centre in the Vaasa region is part of our company’s global multibillion-dollar investment in advancing a sustainable energy future.
“We are pleased with the cooperation agreement with the leading construction company YIT. With this investment, we will be able to more strongly support our customers’ growing needs as energy production and consumption become more and more electrified, while at the same time giving us a solid basis for the growth of our business.”

Preparatory earthworks have already commenced, with the main construction activities scheduled to start in February 2025. The project is on track for completion at the beginning of 2027.

Earlier this month, YIT started construction of Asunto Oy Tampereen Kesätuuli, an eco-friendly residential apartment block in the Niemenranta district of Tampere, Finland.
